Certified Nurses Aide
The Certified Nurse’s Aide Training Program consists of 90 hours over 12 weeks of specified theory and clinical curriculum. Students become familiar with equipment, materials and supplies which are used in basic healthcare institutions appropriate in the role of nursing assistant.
Clinical practice is achieved through affiliation with a local nursing home and rehabilitation center.
Upon successful completion and passing examination, participants will be certified as Nurse’s Aides by the New Jersey State Department of Health. This certification is also recognized in Pennsylvania, New York, Maryland and Delaware.
The CNA Program meets the requirements needed to provide quality care to the long-term resident and is approved by the New Jersey Department of Health and Senior Services.
The CNA Program is an excellent introduction to the healthcare field and can serve as a catalyst toward a career path as either a Licensed Practical Nurse or a Registered Nurse.
Note: A student who completes the Program and who obtains employment as a Nurse’s Aide in a long-term care facility within one year of completion of this training is eligible for reimbursement of costs incurred (including competency evaluations)

Course Descriptions
This course is designed to offer the student the necessary theory, lab practice, and clinical experience to become a competent nurse’s assistant in long-term care. The course includes principles of infection control, communications, safety, physical care, nutrition, recreation, and death and dying.
This course meets the requirements needed to provide quality care to the long term resident and is approved by the Licensing Certification of Standards Division of Health Facilities Evaluation of the New Jersey Department of Health. After graduating the student is eligible to sit for the N.J.Certification Examination. Courses are offered from September to December and January to June. Day classes are from 9 am to 3 pm two days a week. Evening classes are from 5 pm to 10:30 pm two evenings a week. Course is 90 hours in length, 2 days or evenings per week: theoretical: 50 hours, clinical: 40 hours. Background check, entrance exams & orientation is required. Physical exam & double TB test or chest x-ray required. A picture for photo i.d. is required. All documentation due by first day of class.

Certified Dental Assistant Review Course
The Certified Dental Assistant Review course consists of three hours a week over a twelve-week period. This course is designed to prepare students who have two years of work experience in the dental field for the certification exam given by the National Board of Examination.
Requirements are a high school diploma or G.E.D. and a current CPR card prior to completion of the course.

Course Descriptions
This is an twelve-week course designed for the student who has at least two years of work experience in a dental office, a dental x-ray license and wants to work in the dental field as a Certified Dental Assistant. A review of the basics of general dentistry including dental instruments and materials will prepare the student for the CDA National Board of Examination. General assisting procedures, radiography, safety, infection control, sterilization procedures and office protocol will be included in this twelve-week course.

Dental Radiography Technician
The Dental Radiography Technician Program consists of a twelve-week course. This course fulfills the requirements of the NJ Radiography Technician Act (NJSA28:20-24) for the education of Dental Radiography Technician as well as preparation for the Dental Radiologic Technology Licensing examination.
Students must be at least 18 years old and have a high school diploma or G.E.D. The duration of the course is nine completed weeks of class, followed by 15 completed hours or lab and 30 completed hours of clinical.

Course Description
This is a 12-week course of study designed to provide the student with the basic knowledge needed to become a Dental Radiography Technician. Areas covered are the theoretical aspects of dental x-ray techniques, safety, infection control and diagnostic uses of radiography. Upon satisfactory completion of theory, there are 15 hours of clinical lab with the instructor, followed by 30 additional clinical hours. The student is then eligible to take the state licensing exam.

Medical Assistant
The Medical Assistant Program is a two semester (34-week) course of study designed to prepare students for careers in one of the fastest growing occupations in the medical field.
The complex nature of modern medical care has created a need for an increasing number of Allied Health professionals. Students in the nationally accredited Medical Assistant Program are trained to perform administrative, technical and clinical duties under the supervision of a physician or other healthcare provider.
Basic classroom study and labs are followed by a seven-week, non-paid clinical externship in a healthcare facility at the end of the second semester. In addition to academic requirements, a Medical Assistant should possess certain personal characteristics to successfully work in the people-centered environment of the medical care facility. These qualifications include dependability, flexibility, good communications skills, a genuine concern for others and a positive attitude.
Graduates will receive a diploma in Medical Assisting and be eligible to sit for the CMA exam offered by The American Association of Medical Assistants.
The Medical Assisting Program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (www.caahep.org) upon the recommendation by the Curriculum Review Board of the American Association of Medical Assistants Endowment (CRB-AAMAE), CAAHEP, 1361 Park Street, Clearwater, FL 33756, 727-210-2350.
The Associate of Applied Science degree program in Medical Assistant in offered jointly with Somerset County Technology Institute and Raritan Valley Community College.
Note: Applicants convicted of a felony are not eligible to sit for the CMA national certification examination unless the certifying board grants a waiver based on one or more of the mitigating circumstances listed in the disciplinary standards.

Medical Biller Coder
Healthcare has become one of the fastest growing industries in the United States. This growth can be attributed to the recent legistration and changes in medical insurance. With the creating HMO's, PPO's and managed care, physicians need employees who understand the complexities of insurance billing. Because of this demand, medical billing has become one of the most popular careers in the nation.
Hospitals, private practices and clinics need personnel who can handle day-to-day medical billing procedures efficiently. Students in the Medical Biller-Coder Program will learn how to complete claim forms, bill insurance companies and adhere to each insurance carrier's policies and procedures.
This program is open to anyone who has a high school diploma or equivalency certificate, is at least 18 years of age, has the desire, and can demonstrate a reasonable chance of success in a post-secondary level course of study. Students must be computer literate or take a basic computer applications course before entering the program.

Practical Nursing
One Year Full Time Day Program
The Practical Nursing Full Time Day Program (46 Weeks) is a one year program designed to prepare students to function as integral members of the health care team and to meet the licensing requirements of the New Jersey Board of Nursing.
The program requires two semesters and a summer session in theoretical and clinical studies that incorporate content and concepts relevant to biological and physical sciences, behavioral science, principles and practices of nursing and contemporary health issues in health care.
A new cycle of day classes begins in the Fall of each year. Credit for Anatomy & Physiology may be permitted upon documentation of a C or better in college level A&P I & II and Microbiology.
Articulation programs are in place with Muhlenberg Regional Medical Center School of Nursing (Howard B. & Dorothy A Snyder School) and Raritan Valledy Community College for qualified graduates of the Practical Nursing Program who wish to continue their studies.
Students who complete our program have the option to apply as a non-matriculated student at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey in order to receive any or all of the elective credit after passing the required UMDNJ exams. (See electives listed in box)

Part Time 2 Year Program
Two Year Full Time Day Program
The Practical Nursing Full Time Day Two Year Program is designed to prepare students to function as integral members of the healthcare team and to meet the licensing requirements of the New Jersey Board of Nursing.
The Two Year Program is equivalent to the One Year Program but there are several important differences. The Two Year Program has a slightly shorter class day and follows a regular semester schedule. Students enrolled in the Two Year Program have the summer off between the second and third semesters.

LPN REFRESHER COURSE
The nurse refresher course is an 11 week planned course that meets 2 evenings a week. It is designed for individuals licensed to practice nursing, or whose license has lapsed, who are preparing to re-enter nursing practice. It includes a review and update of core nursing care concepts & principles; a review and update on nursing practice theory and principle which includes: a review of current HIPAA regulations; infection control; pharmacology; legal, ethical, and cultural issues. At the completion of the course, the participant will be prepared to enter an orientation program at an employing agency. A physical exam, immunizations, documentation of a double (2 step) Mantoux (TB) test, blood work; CPR Certification; and criminal background investigation are required prior to the first evening of class. Must have own liability insurance.
