Introduction to Cosmetology
The student will become familiar with the many diverse careers in the cosmetology profession, be able to explain state board of cosmetology rules and regulations and become proficient in communication skills that are needed to work in a beauty salon. The student will be able to demonstrate a basic manicure, pedicure, shampoo and scalp treatments.
Fundamentals of Hairstyling & Facial Massage
The student will learn to demonstrate facial massage, removal of unwanted hair, hairstyling techniques including: fingerwaving, pincurling, and roller work and blowdrying techniques. The student will learn the basics of haircutting including use of the scissors and a basic one-level haircut and basic layering techniques. Theory instruction will include: study of the structure of hair and skin.
Use of Chemical on the Hair
The student will learn permanent waving and chemical texturizing techniques as used in a beauty salon. These techniques include the placement of permanent wave rods, sectioning patterns and the proper procedures for the permanent waving process and chemical texturizing process. Theory instruction will include: hair chemistry, chemical composition of products used in the salon.
Hair Coloring Fundamentals
The student will learn to perform hair coloring fundamentals including: client consultation, color selection, color application, single and double process color, mixing formulas and hair coloring using special effects. Theory instruction will include: use of the color wheel, chemicals, used in hair coloring, formulation of color.
