Graphic Design

The onset of new and advanced technologies on the information superhighway has created unlimited opportunities for the graphic artist. Today’s well-trained commercial artist has to have a broad base of computer skills in design and desktop publishing, as well as solid basics and knowledge in traditional commercial art techniques. The Internet and the World Wide Web have created the need for artists to design web pages for the computer screen. This intensive two-year day or three-year evening program has been redesigned to meet the challenges the commercial artist must face in the industry on a daily basis.

Students enrolling in the Graphic Design Program will receive hands-on training in software programs such as QuarkXpress, Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, Ray Dream Studio and traditional courses in drawing, painting and illustration. They will be able to think creatively, problem solve and develop good drawing, painting and design skills. Technologically advanced Macintosh/PC computer labs & conventional art quipment bring the electronic and traditional worlds of graphic design together. Students are also taught multimedia skills such as web page design, animation and digital retouching.

All of the instructors in the program are working professional computer artists, designers and illustrators wil years of practical experience in their fields.

Field trips to printers, trade shows, museums and art studios round out the program’s broad base. Students have the opportunity to serve internships or to do freelance work for businesses within Somerset County

Multimedia

Desktop publishing, computer graphics, web design, animation and presentation graphics have remained needed services to businesses of all kinds.

A person trained in Multimedia will be able to produce informational literature, brochures, marketing and promotional material related to selling a product or service. Both print and the Internet are stressed. Skilled specialists in this area will be able to create interactive CD/DVDs for marketing and advertising, design web pages using current software, scan and digitally enhance images and prepare files for printing. MacIntosh and PCs are used as an effective cross platform, preparing the student for both worlds.

Classes can be taken as part of the full Multimedia program or individually as needed to enhance skill levels. The program is one year and the students will earn a minimum of 33 credits. Students who complete a total of 33 credits in Multimedia or Desktop Publishing/Computer Graphics will earn a diploma in Multimedia.

Interior Design

Interior Design is the understanding of a built environment and its relationship to people. In short, it’s the creation of space in which people work, live and play.

The Interior Design Program covers both the Residential and Commercial facets of Interior Design. Students will be prepared to enter the work force as entry-level designers, design coordinators, space planners, stylists and drafters or can continue with advanced course work towards a Bachelor’s Degree.

The goal of the program is to encourage the student to conceptualize and create successful design solutions for a wide variety of clients and design problems. Classes are held in the days, evenings and on Saturdays. The Spring Semester of classes are the core requirements for both the One and Two Year Programs.
