Graphic Design The onset of new and advanced technologies on the information superhighway has created unlimited opportunities for the graphic artist. Today’s well-trained commercial artist has to have a broad base of computer skills in design and desktop publishing, as well as solid basics and knowledge in traditional commercial art techniques. The Internet and the World Wide Web have created the need for artists to design web pages for the computer screen. This intensive two-year day or three-year evening program has been redesigned to meet the challenges the commercial artist must face in the industry on a daily basis. Students enrolling in the Graphic Design Program will receive hands-on training in software programs such as QuarkXpress, Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, Ray Dream Studio and traditional courses in drawing, painting and illustration. They will be able to think creatively, problem solve and develop good drawing, painting and design skills. Technologically advanced Macintosh/PC computer labs & conventional art quipment bring the electronic and traditional worlds of graphic design together. Students are also taught multimedia skills such as web page design, animation and digital retouching. All of the instructors in the program are working professional computer artists, designers and illustrators wil years of practical experience in their fields. Field trips to printers, trade shows, museums and art studios round out the program’s broad base. Students have the opportunity to serve internships or to do freelance work for businesses within Somerset County
