Students who wish to apply for financial aid should file a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) at least two months prior to the semester in which they plan to enter SCTI.  These forms are available from high school guidance offices or the Somerset County Technology Institute Office of Student Services.  The fastest most efficient way to file the FAFSA is through the Internet.  This is available at www.fafsa.ed.gov. Whether using paper or the Internet be sure to release data to the school by putting the Title IV code on the FAFSA.  The code is 014074.

Financial aid recipients are selected by first completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).  The information supplied is used in the Congressional formula that calculates your Expected Family Contribution (EFC), an amount you and your family are expected to pay toward your education.  The financial aid administrator takes the cost of attendance at SCTI and subtracts the EFC.

HOW DO I APPLY FOR A FEDERAL STUDENT LOAN

As with all federal student financial aid, you apply for a Stafford Loan by completing the FAFSA. However, you will need to sign a Master Promissory Note, which is a binding legal contract that says you agree to repay your loan according to the terms of the promissory note. Read this note carefully before signing it and save a copy for your records.

The first step is to go on line to mappingyourfuture.org and to do an Entrance Interview. After you have completed the Entrance Interview you can sign on at www.hesaa.org and apply for a Stafford loan.
