JOSEPHINE HERNANDEZ, PRESIDENT OF THE STATE BOARD OF EDUCATION,
RECEIVES HONORARY DEGREE FROM SOMERSET COUNTY TECHNOLOGY INSTITUTE

Josephine Hernandez received a 2009 Honorary Degree from Somerset County Technology Institute at the commencement ceremony held at SCTI on Thursday, May 14, 2009.
Ms. Hernandez, Vice President of Passaic Community College and President of the NJ State Board of Education shared her insights and experiences about a career in higher education that spans more than three decades.
One hundred and fifty two students received their diplomas in Practical Nursing, Medical Assistant, Computer Technology, Technology Office Professional, Cosmetology, Graphic Design, Interior Design, Air Conditioning Refrigeration & Heating, Automotive, Construction and Diesel Technology.
Rick Fontana, Director of the Somerset County Board of Chosen Freeholders, congratulated Dr. Arleen Urban, Supervisor of Office Administration Programs on her retirement after 41 years of service to the school district. He also wished the graduates success in the future as they met the challenges in their new careers.
The graduating class received encouragement from Denise Sites of Hillsborough, a graduate of the Practical Nursing Program. Denise is the recipient of a $1,000 scholarship from the Somerset County Commission on the Status of Women. Married with three children, she plans to continue her education and become a Registered Nurse.
Diplomas and scholarships were distributed by Michael A. Maddaluna, Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Alan P. Braun, President of the Vocational Board of Education, Anita Ventantonio, VP of the Board,
board members Ted Smith, William Hyncik, Jr., Diane Strober, Business Administrator/ Board Secretary and Dr. Casey Crabill, President of Raritan Valley Community College.
A reception was held in the cafeteria following the ceremony.
