MONCRIEFF I. FISHER RETIRES FROM SOMERSET COUNTY VOCATIONAL BOARD OF EDUCATION AFTER 30 YEARS

Moncrieff I. Fisher who retired from the Somerset County Vocational Board of Education on October 31, 2007 will be recognized for his 30 years of service as a member and president of the Board at a reception on Wednesday, December 5 at the Imperia in Somerset.  

During Mr. Fisher's tenure he served as a member of the Somerset County Board of Estimate, responsible for leading the Vocational & Technical Schools Board in implementing a $16 million budget in 2007-2008 to provide quality education for a diversified group of students attending full-time and part-time programs at the Somerset County Vocational & Technical H.S., Somerset County Technology Institute, Adult Continuing Education Program, Academy for Health & Medical Sciences, Twilight Program and TOPS Program.

 

In 2006, he led the Board in implementing a $6.5million construction project that resulted in a new Performing Arts and Technology Center, now used by the student body, as well as community organizations. He also managed numerous construction projects, including the new Media Center, Print Shop and Science Laboratories.

In his earlier years, he worked with the Technology Institute's administration to form a new accreditation process for the adult school. A $3.9 million expansion to the schools in 1994 resulted in a 29,000 square foot addition at the high school for classrooms and a new interactive television studio. The construction eliminated a satellite building in Hillsborough where 90 special education students were housed.

One of the longest serving Board of Education members in the State of N.J. , Mr. Fisher worked with numerous County Superintendents on the Board including Dr. Donald Van Sant, Salvatore Abitanta, James Loper, John Nemeth, Dr. James Mundy, Robert Swissler, Anthony Novembre, Juanita Faulkner and David Livingston.

Mr. Fisher is a retired Special Projects Engineer & Director of Risk Management & Government Relations for the New Jersey Sports Authority. He and his wife Octavia who have a daughter Tavia reside in Franklin Township.
