SOMERSET COUNTY TECHNOLOGY INSTITUTE ESTABLISHES AMERICAN SOCIETY OF INTERIOR DESIGNERS CHAPTER
Somerset County Technology Institute has been approved by the American Society of Interior Designers to house a new student chapter of ASID. To qualify for membership in the national organization SCTI¹S Interior Design program was evaluated by ASID administrators who ensured that the adult Institute¹s curriculum met the criteria.
Approval to house an ASID local chapter at SCTI was received in August from the national headquarters of ASID in Washington, DC. ASID represents the largest network of professional interior design students in the world.
Student members of ASID will be able to take advantage of the organization's educational programs, professional certification and employment opportunities. Graduates will be able to pursue a variety of careers in the field. The interior design profession provides services encompassing research, development, and implementation of plans and designs of interior environment to improve the quality of life, increase productivity, and protect the health, safety, and welfare of the public.
ASID professional practitioners perform the following services: programming, conceptual design, design development, contract administration, and evaluation.
³SCTI is one of four institutions in New Jersey that offers interior design students membership in an ASID professional chapter. The other three are Brookdale Community College, Berkeley College and Kean University,² said Ken Schwarz. coordinator of SCTI¹s Interior Design program.
